Saroj Khan, born Nirmala Nagpal on November 22, 1948, was a legendary Bollywood choreographer who revolutionized dance in Indian cinema. With a career spanning over four decades, she choreographed more than 2,000 songs across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and other regional films.

Khan began her career as a background dancer in the 1950s and transitioned into choreography in the 1970s. Her breakthrough came with the song “Hawa Hawai” from Mr. India (1987), but it was “Ek Do Teen” from Tezaab (1988) that catapulted her to fame. Her unique style blended classical Indian dance with modern expressions, creating iconic performances that became benchmarks in Bollywood.

Known for her meticulous attention to detail and ability to bring out the best in actors, Khan worked with stars like Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, and Aishwarya Rai. Her collaborations with Madhuri, especially in songs like “Dhak Dhak Karne Laga” and “Chane Ke Khet Mein,” are considered masterpieces.

Saroj Khan passed away on July 3, 2020, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire dancers and choreographers worldwide. Her contributions to Bollywood dance are immortalized through her timeless choreography.
